Sierra de la Plata

The Strait of Gibraltar Natural Park, declared in 2003, is Andalucía’s most recent protected area and forms part of the Transcontinental Biosphere Reserve of the Mediterranean between Spain and Morocco. Its 18,910 ha comprise the southernmost protected area on the European continent and offer unique ecological, landscape, historical and cultural characteristics. This longer trail finishes at the Pope's Chair which is an ancient, pre-Roman oppidum, a raised area where different structures such as temples and fortresses were erected. The views from here are stunning and explain why the primitive significance of the site still permeates the air.
