Medina Sidonia Countryside
8 max
Medina Sidonia, Benalup Casas Viejas
Description
Located right in the centre of the province of Cádiz, in the vicinity of the towns of Medina Sidonia, Benalip-Casa Viejas and Alcalá de los Gazules, this expanse of countryside boasts a succession of cereal fields and olive groves, wild olive trees and Mediterranean scrubland with some Cork Oaks. The habitat range and high numbers of Red-legged Partridge and rabbit sustain one of the most diverse and complex bird communities all year round.
Of particular interest is the outstanding density of raptors such as Spanish Imperial Eagles or Bonelli´s Eagles, at times with amazing numbers during their juvenile dispersion movements, and wintering seasons. Red Kites, Booted Eagles, Short toed Eagles, Little Owl, Sparrowhawk, Griffon Vulture, as well as big numbers of passerines, are usual sightings in the area depending on the time of year when you plan your visit and the migration season.
Steppe birds represent another highlight on this itinerary, with good chances of Montagu’s Harrier, and one of the last enclaves where, with luck, the very rare Little Bustard can still be seen in the Province of Cádiz.
