Description
During this tour we will focus on exploring some of the most renowned birdwatching sites in Extremadura, with La Serena standing out as we travel its flat expanses enjoying the birds and scenery.
Extremadura in winter has always been synonymous with the biggest and most vocal of all our birds, the Common Crane, whose huge flocks arriving from Northern Europe are sure to get a lot of our attention during our field sessions. Our itinerary will run across open dehesa woods, extensive cereal stubble fields and many other places they frequent to forage and rest, in order to watch them closely and learn more about this magnificent traveller.
Of course, the steppic birds will play an essential role in this ornithological experience and so our itineraries are carefully planned towards optimizing our chances of successful sightings of Great and Little Bustards as well as Sandgrouses, among other species. To a backdrop of wintering fields, we will encounter numerous Red Kites, and will search for raptors like Spanish Imperial, Golden and Bonelli´s Eagles, and are sure to be amazed by the massive formations of Calandra and Sky Larks, Starlings and Spanish Sparrows, etc.
The reputed gastronomy of Extremadura and the comfortable accommodation selected will only add to this marvellous ornithological experience.
