Bay of Cádiz Natural Park

Cádiz, San Fernando, Puerto Real, Chiclana, El Puerto de Santa María
Description
The Bay of Cádiz Natural Park is right in the centre of the Atlantic coast of the province. Despite the notable human pressure in the area, there are still intact places of great value, such as Marismas de Sancti Petri and Trocadero Island, both protected sites.
The close presence of the sea, the Guadalete and San Pedro River deltas, together with the mild Mediterranean climate, determine the ecological characteristics of these marshes and their vast landscape diversity: beaches, dune systems, lagoons, marshes and traditional fish farms.
The strategic position, between Doñana National Park and El Estrecho Natural Park, make it an outstanding spot to watch birds migrating to or from Africa. Some of the most important Spanish colonies of Little Tern, Black-winged Stilt and Avocets are to be found here, together with great numbers of waterfowl and wintering waders that congregate here in the inner parts of the Bay. Right from the beach it is possible to enjoy seabirds and good numbers of terns and waders such as Oystercatchers, Bar-tailed Godwits and Kentish Plovers. Other common species in the area are Greater Flamingo, Eurasian Spoonbill, Great White Egret and Ospreys, as well as White-headed Ducks, common in the seasonal freshwater lagoons.
